Dr. Kitty Cahalan brings to CTLO experience connecting local K-12 students with STEM educational resources and volunteers. A parent of two public school students, Kitty has served in a number of leadership roles for local public school advocacy and governance groups, including the Longfellow Elementary PTA, Blair PTSA, the Pasadena Unified School District PTA Council, California First District PTA, Longfellow School Site Council and the Pasadena Unified School District Advisory Council. She has also served as a volunteer to bring hands-on STEM activities and learning to Longfellow classrooms and served as the chair for the Longfellow Science Night for six years.
Kitty earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Bryn Mawr College and her Ph.D. in bioinorganic chemistry at Caltech.
After graduate school, she worked as a knowledge manager and producer at Idealab, an internet and technology incubator, where she created content for the company intranet and managed projects for operating companies developing geolocation and robotics products.
Kitty moved to a position at the Alfred Mann Foundation, a non-profit that develops medical devices. She worked in the applications and clinical group, helping to determine the market viability of new applications of the medical devices and coordinating the on-site logistics for clinical trials.
After leaving her position at AMF, Kitty spent five years providing commercialization feasibility research consulting services for businesses looking to expand products into new markets. She also spent two summers as the Caltech site manager for Project Scientist, a summer STEM program for K-8 girls.
