Caltech Roundtable: Writing Popular Books about Science
Come hear three Caltech professors, who have written successful books about science for non-experts, discuss the challenges and rewards of their writing:
- Sean Carroll, Research Professor of Physics, The Particle at the End of the Universe: How the Hunt for the Higgs Boson Leads Us to the Edge of a New World
- Mike Brown, Richard and Barbara Rosenberg Professor and Professor of Planetary Astronomy, How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming
- Hiroshi Ooguri, Fred Kavli Professor of Theoretical Physics and Mathematics, Introduction to Superstring Theory
This panel will address questions such as:
What does the writing and research process entail for a popular book about science?
What effects do writing for the public have on a scientist's research and career?
How does a scientist get a popular book contract and work to promote the book?
All Caltech faculty, post-docs, students, and staff are invited to attend! Lunch will be served, so please RSVP at: http://goo.gl/xW4jrA
